Alan Eugene Jackson was born in Newnan (Georgia) in 1958 and is a singer and songwriter. His musical style can be best described as a blend of country, neotraditional country (a subgenre of country music that emphasizes the instrumental background and a traditional country vocal style), bluegrass, and gospel music. He’s also known for blending traditional honky tonk and mainstream country sounds as well as for writing many of his own songs. He’s had a stellar career with 16 studio albums (many of which have been certified multi Platinum), 1 live album, 12 compilation albums, 6 video albums, 2 gospel albums, 2 Christmas albums, and he’s sold more than 80 million records worldwide. He’s received many accolades including 2 American Music Awards, 14 Academy of Country Music Awards, 1 Billboard Music Award, 15 Country Music Association Awards, 1 ICMA Award, 1 ASCAP Award, 1 Golden Boot Award, and 2 Grammy Awards. He’s a member of the Grand Ole Opry (a weekly country music stage concert in Nashville, founded on November 28, 1925) and in 2001, he was inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame. In 2010, he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
